Carolanne MacLean was born in Toronto in 1949. She is a graduate with honours of the Ontario College of Art in Fine Art and has a B.A. from the University of Toronto.
Her large encaustic abstract works are a study in light, colour and texture, sometimes involving the figure, often nonrepresentational.
Carolanne also makes small expressive acrylic faces, City Souls, for which she uses the pseudonym, Cate Merritt, as a way to keep the artwork separate.
She pursues the beauty of the figure through a regular sculpture practice for which she has created the pseudonym, Ruby Mcinnis.
What is the purpose of art? Something in me, put out to reach something in you. I am compelled to mark something down.
